Daphne fell from a second story apartment balcony in San Francisco. According to her shelter intake notes: the owner took her to the vet for x-rays and found out she had a broken pubis and needed to be taken to be seen by a neurologist to determine if her back end paralysis could be operated on through emergency spinal surgery, which the owner could not afford. She was dumped at the shelter with a paralyzed back end instead.

As our rescue knows all too well with spinal injuries: the longer you wait to have a dog seen, the less likely surgical repair can be made and the more likely the damage is permanent. Every single MINUTE counted In this sweet puppy's case, she was NEVER taken to be seen by a neurologist and the shelter could not even confirm the story about the vet office visit.

San Francisco Animal Services reached out to us to help this poor angel....and of course, we didn't hesitate! Daphne did not ask for any of this. She was only 8 months old and 35 pounds at the time. Now she has been robbed of her mobility and has suffered some major trauma AND broken bones. With all that said, Daphne is still a loving, sweet, trusting, happy-go-lucky puppy who just wants to be a puppy.

Daphne is incontinent and has suffered from urinary tract infections, something that could turn deadly if not treated. It is also unfortunately a situation where she could become immune to the antibiotics. Despite this, Daphne still scoots around and plays all day like she has no idea she's different from other dogs. She still has her whole life ahead of her, and we will always make sure she's taken care of. 

Do not let the wheelchair fool you!! Daphne is a fearless firecracker!!
